The CCTV-cameras are incredibly present in london. I´m not very used to it, and it sometimes really annos me being watched with every step I take. I wonder if the state is trying to protect people with it, or only itself. It must be thousands of cameras in this city, following everyone till the door. People don not seem to realize it anymore. they are used to it, don´t care about it, or just forgot about it, as the cameras are sometimes well hidden, and very small.
I personally hate it, to be honest.
The intention is to make a series of about 9 paintings, that will be put up on the wall in a grid like in the surveillance centers of the police. There is nothing happening on every painting, no person is being seen. The sense of CCTV is, that something is happening, someone suspicious is doing something that is worth being monitored. If there is no one, the whole system is senseless, the money for all the technology is being spent for nothing. all we have is footage of streets, parks, parking lots and all the sites, but nothing else. senseless image material of a paranoid society.
